The
name refers to aquamarines pale
blue, blue-green and light green
variety of beryl. The most precious
color is aquamarines which is
rich blue sky. But as the stone
is pleochroic, blue stones were
also given a greenish-blue hue
in one direction.
The large aquamarines range
from many carats to a few
tens of carats,. Many stones
are virtually free of inclusions.
Typically where there is plenty
of material available, stones
of poor quality do not come
to market. The chandelier
is made of glass and nothing
exceptional. The most common
cut is available emerald type,
however, mixed or oval-shaped
pear reductions are also found.
The color of the stone stands
out quite easily. It is topaz
blue and light blue synthetic
color. The first is a blue
set, while the second is to
have a gray or purple hue.
He had much higher brightness
and pleochroism not at all.
Most aquamarines are from
Brazil, where crystals with
several kilos of weight have
been found. Aigues-marines
are also present in the Soviet
Union, Transbaikalia, Urals,
Siberia, Madagascar and the
USA. This stone was recently
found in Afghanistan as well.
Rich blue stones of several
carats in weight are among
the most expensive high school
gems. The price is much more
blue topaz similar characteristics.
Green or pale aquamarines
are much less valuable.
Aquamarine is most often
imitated by blue glass, which
is an easily reproduced color.
It is also imitated by blue
synthetic spinel, a different
color, with greater brilliance
and no pleochroism. Because
of the similarity generally,
it is sometimes also called
synthetic aquamarine, although
the latter is not a product.
