Nature's grandeur seems to have exhibited in the full glare of opals. You will be able to see the brightness of all colors of the rainbow in the Opals. There are a considerable number of stories and legends about this brilliant gem. The Opals are mostly in arid regions of the world.

The origin of opals can be traced back to the days when the Aboriginal people of Australia ruled the country. There is a legend that God came down on earth on a rainbow. He came only as a messenger of peace and harmony. At the very spot where he first touched his feet, opals all started with their bright sparkling. The authenticity of this legend is unknown, but Australia is still the largest exporter of precious opals.

More or less ninety-five percent of the total supply of opals is from Australia. The other five percent are mined in countries like Brazil and Mexico. In addition to the above-mentioned countries, Nevada and Idaho in the United States are also regarded as the top-rated providers of opals in the world. In recent years, Ethiopia has also become a supplier of Opal.

Opals are in a variety of colors. There are white, red, yellow, blue, green, grey, magenta, pink, brown, black, color and oink opals. But among all these different colored opals, white and green opals are usually mined. On the other and the red and black opals are mined barely. It is because of their scarcity, black and red opals are most valuable. The opals that are most valuable expose variable interaction of colors. The Opals also have an internal structure. Fire Opals are usually red, or yellow in color. The fire opals are found in most mines in Mexico. The Opals which does not take into account the interaction of colors are simply described as "common opal."
